Ben Atkinson

I am a London-based musical director, supervisor and pianist.  I am currently the musical director for TINA: The Tina Turner Musical at the Aldwych Theatre in London, and a regular deputy conductor for Moulin Rouge at the Piccadilly Theatre.  I'm the music supervisor and orchestrator for the current UK tour and London transfer of Shrek The Musical and the music supervisor and orchestrator of the upcoming UK tour of Hairspray.  I was recently the MD for the West End production of Jersey Boys at the Trafalgar Theatre, from 2022 to 2024.

 

I was the conductor/MD of the Cameron Mackintosh UK and International tour of Les Misérables from 2018 - 2020 and was MD and dance arranger for the UK premiere and West End transfer of Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom the Musical.  Additional work as a music director includes Everybody's Talking About Jamie (UK Tour), Gypsy (Buxton International Opera Festival), Chicago (UK Tour), Oklahoma (UK Tour) and two UK tours of Hairspray.  I have also also worked extensively in regional theatre and have been the MD for Oliver!, The Sound of Music, Chicago, Piaf and Hello, Dolly! at the Curve Theatre in Leicester.  I am also an experienced arranger and orchestrator in theatre and have provided new orchestrations, reductions, and dance and vocal arrangements for various shows.

I studied music at Cambridge University, graduating in 2011, where I was the organ scholar at Sidney Sussex College and studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music.
